ART

In a creative environment the children are given the opportunity to manipulate clay, crayons, markers, pastels, fabrics, brushes, paints and paper. Through experimenting children develop a growing understanding of visual materials. From these early manipulations they learn their primary visual graphic concepts finding out about lines, shapes and colors and begin to make elaborate configurations as their art transitions into representation. Through the medium of visual art, children learn to express themselves and share their thoughts and emotions with the class as well as feeling proud of their individual creations.

DRAMA

Children are encouraged to discover the world of drama through playful activities based on plays, storybooks and rhymes. The children explore their emotions and become aware of their uniqueness and ability to express themselves verbally and through mime. The children create props to help them interpret their dramatic play, blankets over tables for caves, large boxes for castles and paper bags cut into wings are just a few examples. Our varied dress up collection, wigs and face paint are also popular. We are fortunate enough to also have access to a fabulous stage for our performances.

MUSIC

Our music program is an introduction to instrumental Orf and Kodaly ensembles. Children will learn simple arrangements and are able to play xylophones, djembes, and a selection of percussive instruments. Children will also enjoy learning to sing, move to the rhythm and participate in creative movement games.

DANCE

At Rainbow our dance and movement classes are specifically designed with the consideration of the children’s individual capabilities and limitations in mind. Children explore their gross motor abilities along with increasing their spatial concepts. As their self confidence evolves, so does their interest in learning movements as well individual interpretation of a variety of musical genres.

SCIENCE & NATURE

Children participate in variety of hands on experiments; scavenger hunts and nature walks to feed their curiosity and enhance both their observational skills and knowledge of the world around them. Children are given the opportunity to plant seeds and blubs, make volcanoes, measure worms, watch cloud formations and manipulate our rock and crystal collection.
